Few times of the year instantly make people think of aromas, comfort, warmth, seasons, and coziness like fall. It’s like a special place sandwiched right after an awesome summer and before the upcoming holidays. Throw in earth’s soaring colors that make you gasp at their beauty and it’s pretty hard to resist.
To that I say, don’t! Let go and FALL ALL IN!
If you’re asking “where to start?”, I’d answer indoors or out because I’ve got some thoughts for both!
INDOOR ACTIVITIES
SPRUCE UP YOUR SPACE
Fairy lights, rustic blankets, and throws, diffusers, scented candles, floral arrangements, wood and rope accessories, whatever your hearts delight!
Whether you’re in an apartment, dorm, or back home, you can still bring in the autumn warmth by fall-ifying your space.

BAKE SOME CLASSICS
Apple pie and cinnamon rolls and snickerdoodle cookies, oh my!
Yep, I’m a pure sucker for sweets, but fall sweets are just a whole other level of amazing! Pair them with a warm drink and let the cozy begin.
If you want to go to the next level, try personalizing classics with your own little spin; add a touch of rum (if you’re over 21), raisins, orange or lemon peel, eggnog, and any other flavorings that tickle your tummy to jazz up a classic!
COZY UP WITH SOME DRINKS (WARM OR CHILLED)
Speaking of cozy vibes, is it even fall if you haven’t had your quintessential seasonal drink? From chai lattes to sparkling apple cider and all the drinks in between, the possibilities are endless for drinks that scream ‘autumn’.
If you’re feeling extra brave, try your hand at making your own specialty drinks and wear that barista crown for the night! In my 5 Drinks You’ll Love for Fall post, you’ll find some of my favorite at-home recipes to fall for!
WATCH SOME FALL SPOOKY MOVIES
Love me a good movie…just not a huge fan of spooky ones (what can I say #stillscaredofthingsthatbumpinthenight). So when the crisp autumn air starts stirring the leaves and it’s a little drizzly and chilly, it’s the perfect time for some of my go-to flicks/tv series:
My fav’s in no particular order:
- Hocus Pocus
- Halloweentown
- Supernatural (TV Series)
- The Vampire Diaries (TV Series)
- Charmed (TV series)
- The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
GRAB A GOOD BOOK
Ahh, books! My English major heart will always have a special place for all things literature. So, if you like to get your read on too, check out 5 Items to Add to Your Spooky Fall Reading List for some of my favorite fall reads!
LISTEN TO A GOOD PLAYLIST
Playing some of your favorite cozy fall songs, in my opinion, is one of the quickest ways to get into the fall mood!
One playlist I like to listen to when autumn rolls around is anything from alexrainbirdMusic’s (fall playlist). Their most recent -list “Indie/Indie-Folk Compilation – Autumn/Fall 2020 ? (1½-Hour Playlist)” is my fave.
PICK UP A NEW CRAFT
With the shorter and colder days, plus the pandemic, staying indoors while safely practicing social distancing seems to be our new norm, at least for a while. So why not pick up some new hobbies or crafts?
Journaling, learning a new learning language, working on personal growth, painting, wood burning, gardening, are a few crafts that will keep your mind and soul growing.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
WALK OR BIKE THROUGH A PARK
Where safe to do so for yourself and others, get fit and stay active while enjoying the autumn scenery plus air.
COLLECT LEAVES AND ACORNS FOR FUTURE CRAFT PROJECTS
Think, painting, tracing, gluing, and decorating! The possibilities are endless when it comes to crafting so let your imagination and heart run wild.
GO APPLE OR PUMPKIN PICKING
Check ahead so you’re aware and on board with safety precautions for you and yours, then go nuts for this quintessential fall activity.
HAVE A BONFIRE
For my non-apartment dwellers out there, take advantage of your backyard (or side yards) as well as the cooler temps blowing in and have yourself a good ‘ol bonfire—smores and all!
For apartment dwellers, consider lighting up some candles and turning on Netflix’s Fireplace 4K. You’ll feel like you’re right there in the midst of a good ol’ bonfire.
GO STARGAZING
Whether it’s on your fire escape, on your roof, or in your backyard take advantage of one thing that will never be crowded…the sky. If you have safe access and can, add a few small touches… think artificial moss, garland, fairy lights, gourds, textured fabrics that can be wrapped around the base of tall plants, or a few throw pills, to create a beautiful atmosphere to gaze at the heavens on a crisp fall night!
