If you’ve crept my Instagram feed, you know I’m a huge proponent of self-care and self-love. More importantly, it’s a must to include time for both throughout the week.
Once we learn how to care and love ourselves, many areas of our lives change for the better. So, let’s get started with 3 ways to include more self-love in your routine.
BE YOUR BIGGEST FAN
How many times do you analyze everything you do? Or, tighten that judgment cap a little too tight? Too often we bring ourselves down, focusing only on the negatives, or way too many “should haves”, and “could haves”.
Instead of running that endless hamster wheel of negativity, why not get out your pom-poms and be your own biggest cheerleader! Things you can do:
- Remember to thank yourself for showing up and being present even when some days you want to crawl under the sheets.
- Reward yourself with kind words. Try mentally listing some positive qualities you admire in someone and adopting that disposition for the day. Want a challenge? Take it a step further by saying one kind thing aloud to yourself each morning for a month and see how you feel.
GET COMFORTABLE BEING ALONE
There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. This was a game-changer for me.
There was a time when I feared being alone but once I started realizing the people I had around me were toxic, I opted to be around my own positive energy and drop the negativity.
Even more so, I realized just how much I needed time and space to just think by myself. Reflect on my day, my life, and just ponder my own thoughts. Once I got comfortable with my own presence, I found myself having a deeper sense of who I was.
GRATITUE MAGNITUDE
Regardless of how your day goes, find something to be grateful for. Yes, I know. You’ve heard it before but what if it actually changes you? What if the change is for the better? Being conscious of something as simple as being able to breathe out your nose without feeling like there’s a hammer between your eyes (where my fellow allergy suffers at?) allows you to not take something that truly affects you big or small for granted.
Alia Sobel of Two Word Story has this great challenge on her Instagram called “Gratitude Magnitude” where you write down a list of what you’re grateful for using 2 words per item, in 2 mins. So, I challenge y’all to try it out and if you’re willing, drop one thing you’re grateful for in the comments.

I so agree! Once I learned the difference between being alone and being lonely, I was able to be more comfortable in my skin and spending time by myself.
Great tips Anna!
Being kind to ourselves is so important. We have to love and invest in ourselves if we want to be healthy and be able to give to others.
I started doing daily gratitude a couple of years ago. Every day I took a minute to really evaluate the day and find SOMETHING to be grateful about. I had some rules for myself, like it had to be relevant to that day, because I knew for the season I was in I needed something concrete. It was so vital in helping my mental health in that time! I’ve admittedly fallen out of that routine (and many others with this new season) but I should definitely get back on that!
Definitely pinning this to my self-care board!
Glad you found this helpful!
I remember a quote I read somewhere where someone in a relationship said “I wish you loved yourself the way you love me” and that hit hard! We’re so quick to give love to others that we sometimes forget to send that back our way.
I have to get back on the gratitude train as well! I really like the idea of setting rules and will definitely try that.
